Canadians Picking up Side Hustles in Lockdown...

Making Cream

Becky Robinson blogs about the new data released by Abacus Data on behalf of the Direct Sellers Association of Canada (DSA) noting the increasing popularity or reliance on Freelance / Gig Economy positions. Nearly a third picked up new jobs to supplement or augment income, but Canadians looking forward are almost twice as likely to continue to pursue them (around 60%). Reasons for taking on more work vary, but the trend is expected to continue or grow. Here's a link to her blog:

Side Hustles & Opportunities

Technology and changing demographics / changes in what's "important" are driving a lot of this interest. For me, it makes total sense as the new economies and work requirements placed on us will change as technology continues to interrupt and disrupt employment patterns. We can't expect the 50 year gold watch career, although a piece of me often romanticises about this, but the reality is that as we get closer and closer to a 100 year life expectancy we'll need to reinvent ourselves over our careers; perhaps multiple times. This will change the way we work and the way we access education.

Side Hustles & Opportunities (SHO) is here to help people continue to improve while finding new opportunities to make more money and save more money. We're looking forward to addressing some very key issues like:

  • Monetizing talents

  • Expanding reach and getting new customers / clients

  • Finding great new positions that pay more or are more rewarding

  • Finding ways to keep more of what we earn

  • Taking businesses from idea to scale

  • Finding purpose and meaning in what we do and WHY we do it

  • And more...
